Round 8
It was a welcome return to the sunshine for our last game before the holiday break. Spirits were high as some teams had an FMR Derby, while others took the show on the road and battled it out away from home.
I hope everyone has a great 3 weeks break, and we will see you all back for the second half of the season soon!!
U6 Lightning
The U6 Lightning travelled to Churchill Park to play against MUSC in the beautiful sunshine. Both teams showed excellent sportsmanship as we had to borrow players with half the team unwell or unavailable.
It was a long game without subs in the heat, but the pure joy at this age that the players all show being on the pitch and playing with their friends is infectious and the pride shown when they dribble down the park, pass to their teammates, receive the ball, tackle and win from the opposition to score a goal is just awesome to see.
Two of our little ladies won POD vouchers today, for their consistent effort and focus on the games showing huge improvement so far this season. Well done Maple and Everly!
U7 Falcons
With opposite conditions to last week, the Falcons turned up to Rapids with a magnificent blue sky overhead. The BCFC were a few players short today so we all agreed to mix it up so everyone got a game. Whilst hard to play against your own team the kids all happily put the red bib on and competed well.
At the half way mark of the season coach Gordo has gotten the kids passing and moving up the pitch like pros. A few handy little kicks for goals made for a fun morning. Shout out to Winston and Ashton for POD. We now approach mid season holidays planning some training and scratch matches before returning for the second half.
It has been a great season so far for the Falcons, well done Kids
U7 Ninja’s
The boys loved the Dunsborough vibes! With 4-a-side and no subs, it made for two very intense halves of play.
We focused heavily on accuracy and challenged our opponents with strong tactics, working hard to win back possession — and that effort paid off.
The sun was shining, the energy was high, and we loved catching up with our Dunsborough friends!
U8 Magic
This week the Magic took on Dunsborough Thunder in a very tough away game under sunny skies. Elbi led the team as Captain, with Mitchell and Lucas stepping up in goals.
The Thunder brought strong defence, and their goalies were hard to get past, but the Magic never gave up. With constant attacking pressure, we found the net through Elbi, Mason, and Charlie.
There were standout efforts all over the field. Zephyr was fantastic in attack, constantly pushing forward. Remi and Savannah worked tirelessly through the midfield, linking up play and chasing every ball. Mason was a rock in defence along with Oleg tracking down opponents and making some crucial stops. Mo also stepped up big time with some key goal-saving plays when it mattered most.
Well deserved player of the Day went to Mo, who was everywhere - tough in defence and quick through the midfield, making a real impact across the game.
A big thank you to Scoops Farm for supporting the team with this week’s Player of the Day voucher!
U9 Legends XI
FMR Derby - Legends 11 v Rovers. Legends 11 started defensively, with Moose and Marley holding a solid backline, though a few snuck through, JC stood firm in goal. The team found run up the line, with Koby’s pace on the wing creating chances. George and Sonny supported strongly through the middle, while Hutch fired off several shots. Fresh legs from Harper and Delasi sparked new fire. Harper’s precise throw-ins and Delasi’s brilliant run taking on three defenders nearly resulting in a goal. Despite strong middle play and wing skill, Legends couldn’t find the net.
Second Half - A perfect corner set up by Kobe put Sonny in front row for a flying strike, denied only by the keeper. In the back line Harper cleared defensively with a committed boot, showing control. Sonny’s ferocious work rate shone, winning 1v1s and turning over the ball. Delasi’s quick toe on a stray ball created a chance, while Marley’s crucial effort shifted momentum. Hutch capitalised on a throw-in, sprinting into attack and scoring a convincing goal. The Rovers responded with a barrage of strikes; Legends defended bravely, but a couple slipped through. Moose’s sweeping dive prevented another goal, and Koby’s spectacular header kept the pressure on.
Conclusion - Legends 11 fought valiantly, with Hutch’s goal noteworthy, but wasn’t enough for the score board in the end. Sonny’s standout performance awarded him player of the match.
U10 Strikers
What a perfect day for soccer! The sun was shining and the field was buzzing with energy as the Under-10 FMR derby kicked off between the Strikers and the Dragons—and wow, it was a match to remember!
The Dragons started strong, scoring a couple of quick goals in the first 15 minutes. They came out full of fire and really put the pressure on. But the Strikers didn’t back down! Their defenders were working super hard, blocking shots and chasing every ball to keep the Dragons at bay.
After a little time to warm up, the Strikers found their rhythm and showed some awesome teamwork. With clever passing and great communication, they pushed forward and finally got their reward with a well-earned goal!
Both teams gave it their all, and the crowd loved every second. It was a great local match full of fun, skill, and sportsmanship.
A big shoutout to Arlo G., who earned Player of the Day for his fantastic passing and strong attacking play. Well done, Arlo!
U10 Dragons
The sun returned to Margaret River today for a the local derby between the FMR Dragons and the FMR Strikers. The excitement was high right from kickoff, with both teams bringing plenty of energy to the pitch. The game moved at a fast pace, and the Dragons showed their enthusiasm with quick runs and bold challenges. At times, some plays were rushed and the Dragons found it tricky to control the ball cleanly. A chat with coach Jimmy at half time had the kids ready to improve this as the game progressed.
In the second half, the Dragons kept up the momentum and had many more shots on goal in what was turned out to be a a competitive match. Most importantly, we had a lot of fun on the pitch today playing our FMR friends, and snapped a great photo together before the match.
Our player of the day today was Max, who we welcomed into our team this season. Max is working hard to improve his game and had some great touches in the match today. Thanks to our own FMR Canteen for the voucher!
U10 Serpents
The Serpents made the most of the perfect sunshine conditions in today's tough battle against the BCFC Possums. Our team showed tremendous heart and resilience throughout the match. Charlie was everywhere on the pitch, winning crucial balls and delivering precise passes earning him Player of the Day. Special mention to Jonnie who attacked with fearless determination, highlighted by some spectacular muddy slides. The Serpents can be proud of their fighting spirit and teamwork.
U11 Roos
The Roos had a midday game at home this weekend vs Vasse Venom. Missing 3 of our squad didn’t slow the team down with one of our more evenly matched games this season. Our entire team showed great determination, teamwork and showed off some of the skills we’ve been working on in training. There were some brilliant saves made by Hudson playing in goals and the movement of the ball from our central defence by Mo through midfield then up front was really awesome to watch. The improvement the players new to our team and to soccer (Annabelle and Pema) showed throughout the game was fantastic! In the end, our player of the day, thanks to Two Cracks in Cowaramup, went to Arty McNie who worked tirelessly on the right wing. Outstanding effort!
U11 Storm
Saturday was a beautiful day to play soccer and it showed in Storm’s performance on the field. It was a tough game against Vasse Vipers but they put their heart and soul into running around. Storm showed great teamwork and communication. They held a solid defence and so the POD went to Daisy Lane.
U12 Breakers
The Breakers played training buddies Legends in a friendly yet competitive match. Legends had the upper hand with some impressive goals scored. Charlotte played a strong game in defence along with Marshall who did some accurate short passing in a forward position with both players taking home POD. Thanks to Two Cracks Coffee and Amazin’ for prizes.
U12 Stars
Another nail biter of a game where the weather matched the play on the pitch, with the confidence of the players shining through. On display was some of the best football the Stars have played all season. Their passing was impressive and everyone was working for each other which led to a great team feeling.
Both the DTFC Fury and the Stars showed great skills which couldn't be separated.
Player of the day was awarded to Hugo Christian for his positive play showing great confidence driving up the pitch. He will enjoy a meal at Sons of Naples, yum!
U12 Legends
It was a beautiful winter’s day in Margaret River, with a crisp blue sky setting the perfect stage for an exciting soccer derby between the Legends and Breakers.
From the opening whistle, both teams brought intensity and passion to the field. The game started with strong play and great energy, but it was the Legends who struck first — opening the scoring with a brilliant display of passing and teamwork that carved through the Breakers’ defence.
Our own backline stood tall throughout the match, doing an incredible job limiting the Breakers’ chances and keeping their shots to a minimum. The defensive discipline and communication were key to keeping the lead secure.
Players of the Day:
🏅 Noah and Sangay — these two were unstoppable today! Their energy, team spirit, and unwavering dedication made it look like they had a lion for breakfast. A thrilling match all around. Well done to both teams
U13 Wyverns
The wyverns had the tough opponent of the FMR Stingrays. Both teams were both just as good as each other. We started off with a goal to the Wyverns but every time someone scored the opponents would get a goal and tie the game. First half the score was 4-3 to the Wyverns and they used that for motivation to push on and score and overall have a good game. At the end of the game the Wyverns came out on top with a score of 8-5, they were hyped. The player of the match went to Weston, a player who stepped in when they had too little players on the field and Michael who is their tallest and one of their best players in the team.
U14 Rockets
It was an action-packed game between the Rockets and the Vasse Cobras, with plenty of energy and determination from both sides. Despite Vasse scoring the opening goal within the first five minutes, the Rockets got off to a strong start and dominated much of the first half.
Down three players and with no subs available, the Rockets gratefully borrowed Nigel and Oscar to help rotate the team. The Rockets displayed excellent communication and sharp passing, with some fierce tackling and solid defensive work. Just before halftime, Miles fired a cross into the box that took a deflection off a Vasse player and landed in the back of the net—bringing the score to 1–1 at the break.
The second half saw Vasse come out strong, catching the Rockets off guard and netting a quick goal. Despite some impressive teamwork and much improved communication from the Rockets, Vasse managed to score again, stretching their lead. Darcy answered back with a fast and determined goal, but Vasse retaliated quickly with another. The game’s momentum shifted as the Rockets began to tire, and Vasse sealed the match with a final goal late in the half. Final score: 4–2 to Vasse Cobras.
Players of the Day were Riley and Dom for their standout efforts on the field—well done boys!
U15 Tigers
The Development Team dominated the match with a flurry of goals, particularly in the first half, but the Tigers showed resilience and flashes of promise. Despite going behind early, Tigers’ goalkeeper Levi made a brilliant save at 9 minutes, and the team kept fighting. Alex pulled one back with a well-taken goal early in the second half, and the Tigers created several chances, including a penalty and a free kick. Though outscored, the Tigers showed grit and glimpses of potential that point to brighter performances ahead.
YL Blaze
The sun was back for our clash against the top of the ladder Cornerstone Crabs in Busselton on Saturday. In the last game before the break, we were fired up and out for the Toblerone Tackle.
Cornerstone started strong, with an early goal in the opening minutes. Caspian put on a display in the mid field. Will piling on pressure in the back. Scarlet put a great ball up to give Kai and Lisa a chance.
Henry calm and strong in goals as always. Blocking and denying them another goal. Sonny not making it easy for the Crabs. Sid’s impressive footwork and quick thinking giving us chances, and thwarting the Crabs. A Poom intercept gave Caspian a shot, but was saved by keeper. Great play up have Kai a shot, but was just wide. Henry made another great save pushing the ball out.
Charlie was strong down the line. Lisa and Kai working hard to create another chance but shot went just over. Charlotte piling pressure and disrupting the Crabs gameplay. Digby running hard and winning the ball. Henry, Poom and William working hard in defence keeping the ball out.
We had a chance off a free kick, but went over giving us the corner. A keeper fumble gave us an open shot, but couldn’t convert. Second corner saved by keeper to keep us scoreless.
Up the other end, the Crabs had a shot, saved, but a scramble for the rebound that went in. We were looking a bit flat, but then Charlie took the ball for a run up the pitch into our forward half injecting some intensity, but was not able to convert. We had a second go but not able to break through. It did fire the team up with the ball staying in our forward half for the next few minutes. Then Cornerstone broke through for their third, followed quickly by their fourth. Henry kept them at 4 saving their next attempts, but they got the win nevertheless.
We may not be getting the results we want, but we are getting complements on our game play. Our growth and development over the first half of the season is something the kids can be proud of. I keep saying it, but our time WILL come. Coach Matt has been putting the work in, and it is showing. We run it out really hard and have a lot of good moments of football. We just couldn’t find that goal that can change everything.
Toblerone Tackle Contenders this week were: Will, Poom, Scarlett and Sonny. But one thud Matt heard gave Sid the Tackle of The Day”.
POD went to Will for being the bedrock for the team in the first part of the season, especially the last 3 weeks. Always pushing for more and delivered well defensively in what was a tough assignment.
YL Wanderers
FMR Wanderers delivered a dominant performance in Round 8, cruising to a convincing 4–0 victory over the GBFC Seasiders on Saturday.
The match started with an early surge from Geographe, applying attacking pressure and forcing an excellent early save from Lucas. GBFC came out aggressive, winning a corner in the opening minutes. But FMR quickly found their rhythm, with Malik and Stirling combining well to feed a promising header for Ryder, and Saxon and Taj linking up effectively in midfield.
Xavier and Ollie were dangerous on the left wing, creating space and pressing high. Zane worked tirelessly down the right, delivering a pinpoint cross into the box that Malik narrowly missed. Despite the miss, it was clear FMR were growing into the game.
Substituting — with Bobbie, Jay, and Ethan coming off the bench — FMR turned up the pressure. Jay impressed with tidy touches and attacking intent, while Malik danced his way into the box before laying it off for Saxon to slot home the opener. 1–0 FMR.
Jay continued to make an impact, testing the keeper with a sharp effort before Bobbie lobbed over the keepers head which added a second goal, giving FMR a comfortable lead. 2–0 FMR.
The Wanderers controlled the tempo beautifully, playing with width, switching the play, and resetting from the back when needed. Oliver and Noah were composed in defence, and the team’s first-half performance was arguably their best of the season — showcasing clean passing, rapid movement, and excellent team cohesion.
The second half began with a more relaxed pace. Saxon, Bobbie, and Malik rotated to the bench, and Lucas was once again called into action with a fine save. Ryder came close with a near miss that struck the post, while Cohen stayed strong in defence.
Xavier remained a constant threat, helping FMR maintain control. Malik returned to make a crucial tackle deep in the midfield before Bobbie switched play with a brilliant cross-field ball to Ryder, who was just off target. Bobbie followed up with two more dangerous crosses in quick succession, and Taj unleashed a thunderous long-range shot that rattled the crossbar.
In the closing stages, the Wanderers added two more to their tally - Jay putting away a cool finish and Taj capping off the win with a cracking goal. Final Score: FMR Wanderers 4 – 0 GBFC Seasiders.
