Round 6

It was a big weekend for FMR.  We hosted the ever popular Jillaroos nights on Friday and our Junior FIFA teams had the FIFA Cup Quarter Finals in Busselton on Saturday!  Great to see that 9 teams are through to the Semi-Finals.

Then on Sunday, the Seniors were at home.  The Mermaids Prems and Busselton City FC met in the inaugural Vicky Dawson Cup in honour of a woman who was involved in both Clubs, and much loved by the local soccer community.  FMR took out the trophy which was presented by Andy Longmore, Vicky’s brother and FMR Life Member.

U7 Falcons

The Falcons were back at home to face the MUSC Dragons this weekend. Despite being a few players short, the team unified and took the challenge head on. With each game we play, the passing and making space is improving. The Falcons have become a close team with lots of pats on the back to celebrate goals and provide encouragement to each other. Each week the skills are improving with everyone enjoying some home practice on top of training.

It was smiles all around at the end of the game but none bigger than Archer and Marshall with player of the day awards. Thanks to Witchy Pies and FMR canteen for their sponsorship.

U7 Ninja’s

It was a chilly, crisp start to our Saturday morning, but that didn’t dampen the Ninjas’ spirits! By 8:30am, our crew was already raring to go—bright-eyed, boots on, and ready for action well ahead of kick-off.

We’re nearing the halfway point of the season, and the energy and excitement are still going strong. This week’s captains, Leo Gedge and Mack Brand, earned the honour thanks to their outstanding listening, effort, and skill throughout training. After picking their teams, they led the charge in a brilliant 15-minute round of footy.

Our opponents, the GMASS Grasshoppers were short on players, so some Ninjas filled in for the other side.  It was beautiful sportsmanship in action.

Standout performances go to:

🌟 Clayton, who had laser-sharp vision on the field—reading every play before it happened and directing the game like a pro.

🌟 Henry, who returned from illness and injury looking sharp and full of heart, filling in and supporting both teams with real maturity.

We’re now looking forward to our away game next weekend, where we’ll be hoping for a strong challenge and another opportunity to grow as a team.

Well done Ninjas—see you at training!

U8 Messi Kids

This week the Messi Kids took on the Busselton City Gunners on a frosty morning at Rapids Landing. The cool morning did not dampen the Messi Kids’ spirits, who were straight into warming up and drills.

Their enthusiasm carried on through the whole game, which put them in good stead to not tire against the determined Gunners. The Messi Kids held onto their field positions throughout the game, presenting a solid defence line and a committed midfield and attack. The team’s passing skills were a highlight to watch, seeing the whole team with possessions and presenting some great opportunities for goals.

The Messi Kid’s player of the day was Elliana, who, after a non-stop first half in midfield moved into goalie position, stopping two goals, including one particularly impressive block. Elliana will enjoy her hot chocolate and brownie from Two Cracks Coffee in Cowaramup!

U8 Magic

The Magic hit the field buzzing with Energy this week, and it showed from the first whistle! Despite the chilly conditions, our team warmed up quickly with some brilliant team play and commitment.

Charlie started in goals and brought the crowd to life with a brilliant quick save just before halftime and stayed cool under pressure. Elbi took over in goals for the second half after a strong outfield first half, showing great focus and awareness.

Zephyr dazzled with quick footwork, weaving through the opposition with skill and confidence. Oleg impressed with sharp passing and was instrumental in setting up Mo for a fantastic team goal. In a beautiful display of teamwork, Mason then returned the favour, assisting Oleg for another great shot on goal.

Savannah turned defence into attack with clever back kicks that caught the opposition off guard, while Mitchell used his speed and awareness to support team play all over the field.

Mo brought the electricity up front with his explosive energy in attack, and Remi’s strong, confident striking kept the pressure on GMAS throughout the game.

Mason was a wall in defence – impassable and calm under pressure. His accurate, controlled kicks helped launch attacks and turn the tide when we needed it most. His all-round performance earned him Player of the Day, proudly awarded by Witchy Pies – well done Mason!

Another strong week from the Magic, full of teamwork, energy, and growing confidence! Go Magic!

U9 Legends XI

A thrilling match that showcased the Legends' trademark energy and determination. The team gave it their all, as always.

First Half:
The Legends started strong with solid defence from Makai and Nelson. Delasi had a close shot on goal, setting the tone. The Sharks struck first, but the Legends responded—Koby and Jangchub kept the pressure on, with Jangchub putting in a consistent effort. Marley then levelled the score at 1–1 and almost grabbed another shortly after. The Sharks regained the lead at 2–1, but the Legends remained focused, with Hutch and Makai coming close on goal.

Second Half:
With Hutch in goal, the Legends defended well, with George, Harper, and Sonny shutting down Sharks' attacks. Makai put in an incredible effort, firing four shots before finally finding the back of the net to make it 2–2!

Final Whistle:
An exciting game, with both teams showing heart, but the Legends’ persistence shone through.

Player of the Match: Makai – for his standout defensive work and relentless drive in the second half.

U9 Raptors

FMR Raptors met the MUSC Panthers at home and treated spectators to a fantastic display of soccer with Torin sparking the action with an early goal. Throughout the match, MUSC impressed with strong, disciplined defending keeping the game tightly contended until the final whistle. Arlo delivered a moment of brilliance by curling a corner kick and bending it like Beckham.

Players of the Day went to Arlo and Cohen and thanks to Sons of Naples and FMR canteen for the vouchers.

U9 Mavericks

FMR Mavericks Vs Vasse Dugites at Rapids Landing.

The game started off and looked to be a challenging one, but before long the Mavericks began to soar. Was an exciting game, with lots of shots at goal. Our strong defence and goalkeepers Lou and Finn did an excellent job at stopping Vasse’s attempts.

Angus had kicked his first goal of the season and the smile on his face said it all.

In the second half Angus then went on to kick two more scoring a hat trick! Harry also scored a hat trick and Flynn kicked 2 goals to secure the win. Was great team work by all.

U10 Strikers

The Strikers got off to a dream start at home, taking the lead just 10 seconds in with a blistering opener. But that early spark quickly faded as GMAS took control and ran out convincing winners.

After the opening goal, the visitors responded with wave after wave of attacks, capitalising on defensive lapses and punishing the Strikers with clinical finishing. By halftime, the momentum had fully swung, and the second half saw little relief for the home side.

Despite the tough result, Chase stood out with a tireless performance and was named Player of the Match.

The Strikers will look to regroup ahead of next week's fixture.

U10 Dragons

The Dragons faced off against MUSC Glory at home this weekend in a game full of ups and downs. The first half proved challenging, with the Dragons struggling to find their rhythm. The Glory took advantage of this early on, putting pressure on and finding gaps in our defence. There were some moments of solid effort but overall the Dragons found it hard to connect their passes and hold their positions. Heads dropped a little toward the end of the first half, but a halftime chat with Coach Jimmy and some oranges made all the difference.

The second half saw a much more determined Dragons side take the field. With better communication and renewed energy, we were able to work the ball up the pitch with more control. In the second half, we played more cohesively as a team, rather than individually. As a result, we were able to turn the game around and kept a clean sheet in the latter half of the game.

We have a lot of lessons to take away from this rollercoaster of a game including keeping our cool, playing as a team and not giving up until the final whistle.

Our player of the day was Connor! Connor was fantastic all the way through, with great communication, accurate and clever passing and he played with determination to the end of the game. Big thanks to Scoops Farm for the voucher!

U10 Serpents

The Serpents entered Round 6 with confidence at an all-time high, delivering a masterclass in teamwork and relentless effort. Ray and Zephyr commanded the backline with authority, providing a solid defence, while Sasha was instrumental in midfield with some outstanding solid kicks that maintained possession and launched attacks. Louis produced a spectacular strike into the top bins that gave the goalkeeper no chance.

Charlie earned Player of the Day holding down pressure situations and making crucial contributions when needed most, all with a smile on his face. Thanks to Sons of Naples for the POD voucher and support. Special thanks goes to coaches Benji and Monty, with their help the Serpents have found their rhythm and are looking forward to the rest of the season.

U11 Roos

A fresh and early start for the Roos at home against the BCFC Falcons. A great game full of excitement the defenders worked well in the first half and greet stops by the keepers. After half time the team worked well to keep the ball on the attack with great shots at goal. Player of the day was Morris with an awesome voucher to sons of Naples! Thank you!

U12 Breakers

The Breakers played their first and last game in this years FIFA cup against the BCFC Blades. The Breakers maintained their composure and battled hard despite the disparity between the teams. Lennox played an athletic game with some strong passes along with Xavier who showed determination in attack to win POD.

U12 Stars

The game against GMAS started out with a bang. A goal in the first 30 seconds from the Stars had everyone fired up but unfortunately the goal was disallowed due to being offside.

However, the mood of the game was set. Lots of peppering of the goal but non that were successful at first which meant a nail-biting watch.

Eventually frustration fuelled the Stars' determination and together with lots of great passing they were rewarded with successful shots. First goals of the season for Samson Kerr and Olive Bayley and a thunderbolt from Freddy Dargue rounded out a successful first cup game.

Overall, an exciting game, especially for Isaac Mann who was able to celebrate his Birthday scoring a cracking goal and winning Player of the Day. He will enjoy a treat from Witchy Pies in Witchcliffe.

U12 Jettz

This week’s Cup game was a local Margaret River derby played in Busselton.  The Jettz began by conceding a few goals in the first half. In the second half, they focused on playing in their opponent’s half of the field and scored 2 goals to reduce the deficit. Despite the 4-2 score the game was closely fought with end-to-end action. Coach Ant named Lennox the best player on the field for his determination and grit.

U12 Legends

🏆 U12 Cup Quarter Final – FMR Legends vs FMR Jettz 🏆

The Legends came fired up for their first cup game of the season! After a tough loss against the Jettz a few weeks ago, the team was determined not to let this one slip away—and they didn’t!

From the first whistle, the Legends dominated with sharp overlapping runs, clean passing, and outstanding communication. The back line was rock solid all game, with Sangay stepping up as the new sweeper and delivering an incredible performance behind the defense. Ziggy, Noah, and Lachlan were on point, locking things down at the back.

In midfield, Koby and Westi held strong and controlled the tempo. Up front, Cooper was a machine, pressing non-stop and applying pressure like never before!

Ashley stole the show with a stunning hat-trick, while Indi, Bella, and Cohen worked brilliantly to hold the ball and create space in the attacking third.

In goals, Beau stood strong with perfect positioning and some top-class throws to launch counterattacks.

Players of the Game: Cooper and Lachlan – relentless effort and rock-solid performances! 💪⚽. A fantastic team effort and a well-deserved win in the quarter finals — bring on the semis!

U13 Stingrays

The Stingrays faced off against the GMAS Phantoms in their Cup Quarter final, taking out the win to progress to the Semi’s.

U13 Wyverns

It was a chilly start at Barnard Park in Busselton, but The Wyverns came out on top, with an incredible performance from start to finish!

Just 2 minutes into the match, the Wyverns opened the scoring with a quick and confident goal, setting the tone for a fast-paced first half. The team was strong with quick ball movement and loads of energy.

The defence was strong, with players reading the game and making it hard for the other team. The new players were able to get some good game time and have settled into the team really well.

Michael’s corners were top class, and Banjo showed quality cut-back balls from tough angles, creating great chances for the team.

But the standout of the day was Alby, who had his best game in the last two seasons. He set up goals and gave it absolutely everything. Alby was named Player of the Day and received a voucher from Sons of Naples – well deserved!

Coach Gary summed it up perfectly:  “No one had a bad day.”  A fantastic all-round team performance.  Well done, Wyverns! Off to the cup semi-finals!

U14 Warriors

Our round 1 clash didn’t go our way, so we were determined to play our best game in the Cup, emerging victorious with a 4-1 win against the Vasse Cobras.

U15 Sharks

The Sharks played the BCFC Lions for the first round of the FIFA Cup.  They started out strong, showing improved team play, stringing together quality passes, and really holding the majority of possession for the first half.  They just didn’t seem to be able to convert, lacking that zing to get the ball in the back of the net.

The Sharks defence looked strong, with decisive and reliable defending from Felix, Vince, Max and Laura.  Busselton had a bit of luck on their side, and managed to sneak a couple past the keeper before half time, leaving the Sharks trailing 2-0 at the break, despite having played an excellent half.

The Lions managed another couple of sneaky goals early in the first half, that lowered the energy at camp Shark, as you could sense the game pulling away from them.  During the last 10 minutes of the match the Sharks really lifted and rallied. They came back with a goal of their own and a fire in their step.

Mateja really took things to the next level, attacking with purpose and determination, winning every possession like it was a mini match in itself and showing the Sharks how its done.  Ava showed brilliant form again this week, playing with consistency and showing her versatility.

The final score was 4 goals to Busselton and 1 to the Sharks.  Players of the day went to Ava and Mateja, thanks to the Yallingup Maze and Witchy Pies for the vouchers.

YL Blaze

Luckily for the parents, it was 2 degrees warmer in Busso than Margs on Monday night, as Blaze took on the Development Squad.  Coach Matt set the kids a challenge to win the tackle with a massive Toblerone up for grabs.  It was good to have 3 on the bench as well.

Caspian was solid in defence.  Henry in goals strong as always, jumping and diving to make the saves.  A brilliant sliding block on his shins came early in the piece.  William was applying great pressure in the back, and Sid was running rings around them with his solid footwork.  In a momentary lapse in our defences, they got round the keeper and put their first goal in the nets.

Kade got a free kick, but we were unable to finish it off.  Charlie was showing dominance down the line. Kai was making moves and creating good opportunities.  Kade had a cracker of a shot, but touched by keeper to push it over, to give us a corner.

The corner was a scramble with both teams hungry for the ball.  William got a shot off, but was saved by the keeper.  Sonny was fouled giving us a free kick in front of goals, but Sid had too many wheeties this morning, and it went over.

Beautiful passage of play by Kade to Sid to Sonny to Scarlett gave us another free kick.  Kade took the shot and passed across the box, but saved by keeper. Second corner and shot also saved.  There was a cry from Coach Matt of “now that’s a Toblerone tackle” but unfortunately it was for the opposition!

Lisa and Scarlett were a fantastic combo, both getting in there giving it all they had.  Scarlett made an awesome run right down the line, keeping the ball in play.  Asha working hard down the line on the far side, Poom strong in the back.  Charlotte getting in there making challenges, and Tilly running fast to apply the pressure.  Sonny, tenacious as always, in the mid.

Sid and Kade working hard to create chances.  It’s brilliant watching them play.  They both have such good ball skills and know where the other will be.  Unfortunately the Dev Squad defence was too strong and we kept running out of room to take the shot, or our shots went wide/over.

As the final whistle blew, we were all keen to see if anyone won the “Toblerone Tackle”.  In the end it was divvied up between the team with Caspian, Charlie, Sonny, Scarlett, Kade and Sid getting special mentions for their hard work on the pitch.  Coach Matt was very happy with our intensity, and drive for the ball especially in the second half.  Our communication was good and they are laying so well as a team.  Making passes and creating options for us.  It’s only a matter of time before it all falls into place.  The team are playing better and getting strong every week, and are playing some really good football.

YL Wanderers

Playing in the FIFA Cup brings another level of excitement and it was great to have the full squad available.

Despite a cold morning and wet pitch, the lads looked motivated and ready, instigating their own pre match warmups.  Fair to say Wanderers dominated possession first half and could have been 3 goals up at halftime if passes hit their targets.

A corner great kick with follow up cracking the top bar by Bobbie, then Stirling following up with a near miss provided the sideline with entertainment.

Margs dominate but not scoring.  Zane was solid at RB.  Great talking on the pitch was led by Lucas and George.  Saxon managed to get through the Geographe defence and score a settling 1st goal.

Taj was dominating in the middle, but the Wanderers were still looking shaky, not passing with conviction, but working hard and pushing on.

Malik was strong and had good attacks forward with Bobbie showing composure with great ball handling and taking free kicks with curve on the ball. Ollie had a great presence in defence.  Score 1-0 at half time

Second half was set to be a cracker with Geographe well and truly in the match after not being put away in 1st Half. Geographe come out to challenge and were strong.  Wanderers holding up but very even 2nd half. Stirling made a great goal with 12 mins to go to give Wanderers a buffer.  Malik ran hard with a great goal to make it 3-0.

Then it seemed the Wanderers took it a little casually, perhaps thinking match was in the bag.  Geographe wove through our defence to score making it 3-1.  It was soon backed up by 2nd goal from a corner leaving it at 3-2.  It was game on and looking like a penalty shootout was becoming reality.

All credit to the Wanderers, they stepped up to the challenge and put the foot down.

Ryder made a great run, chased down in the box, which gave us a penalty. Bobbie took the kick, very composed and nailed the back of the net down low. Wanderers again stole possession out of the middle and sealer from Saxon 5-2.

Suspense in the last 5 minutes with a fair dinkum challenge from Geographe.

Credit to Coach and the Lads for countering the pressure and coming away with a convincing CUP WIN 💪🏼🟡🟢🟡.  POD went to Bobbie who had a great game.  Nice to hear the FMR song, volume is up a notch when it is a Cup win 😁.
