Round 2 - 27 April 2024

Round 2 and boy are we looking schmick in our brand new kit! I think it’s safe to say the kids love it! Due to higher than expected players numbers, we couldn’t outfit all teams, but the top up order should arrive soon for the rest. Another day of sunshine and smiles as the players met on the field for the second game of the season.

U6 Ninja’s

We entered the Football Margaret River home grounds for the highly anticipated official first game of the season! The Ninjas were ready to take on the Busselton Cubs, dividing into two groups to face off against the fresh new team.

The Ninjas' focus was on teamwork and passing, emphasising their core team values.

Leo shone through as our first player of the day, assisting Evie in scoring her first career goal. Along with assisting Evie, Leo lined up multiple goals, pushing his superior soccer energy onto his teammates so they could experience the sweet taste of his soccer success.

Meanwhile, on the other field, Mack, under the guidance of Coach Matt from the under 7s, demonstrated remarkable skill with his precise setups and passes, showcasing his prowess as a true English sportsman. Rumours of West Ham United officials spotted commentating on the sideline had him keen for next week.

Half-time arrives, and the team enjoys a refreshing break with watermelon as the snack of choice. Being encouraged by Coach Britt to perform and to show the crowd what they had, the second half was a whirlwind.

As the game progressed, the Ninjas finished strong, showing sportsmanship by cheering and supporting the Busselton Cubs for their efforts.

It's been an exciting match, and the Ninjas look forward to future encounters with the Cubs throughout the season. Capel better eat their Weetbix next Saturday morning, as the Ninjas are sharpening their swords for their encounter! The Ninjas sign off with a resounding 'Ninjas out!'."

U6 Warriors

It was another sunny start for our Round 2 match up against the Busselton City Panthers for our first home game!

The Panthers were low on players which meant all our Warriors had plenty of touches of the ball. The Warriors delivered non-stop action on both fields, showing plenty of dribble runs which transferred into goals, great use of pitch space and outstanding teamwork!

Coach Ian's pre-game team chat focused on one aim for this week's match - calling each other's names to receive the ball, and our Warriors delivered loudly! After our opposition handshakes, we regrouped for our weekly team celebration!

We cheered our awesome team mates, Georgia and Winston, who received our Round 2 Players of the Day award! A huge thank you to this week's sponsor, Candy Cow for donating vouchers for our players to enjoy a treat! Super effort everyone, high fives to all our U6 Warriors!

U7 The Messi Kids

Our first home game of the season and the sun was shining in Margaret River as we lined up against the Dunsborough Stars. Coaches Ben, Trey and Krista provided lots of energy, encouragement and guidance on and off the field.

The Messi Kids were all about teamwork this week, really looking for each other on the field and starting to know each others names. It was great to see all of the high fives and hand claps along with the excellent passing and talking on the field.

Some highlights of the game included defensive saves by Hunter, Jack, Max and Sonny. Ezra’s thoughtful ball control and power shot. Team bonding over oranges and jokes at half time and the sequences of passes, for example Clancy, Quinn and Hunter combining to achieve results!

The AMAZE’N players of the day were Clancy for his awesome efforts running and dribbling the ball and Sonny for her bursts of speed at both ends of the field and excellent defence. Clancy and Sonny will enjoy 18 holes of mini golf thanks to Amaze’n Margaret River.

U8 Rovers

The U8 Rovers travelled to Busselton to take on the MUSC Ninjas for their first away game of the season. This weeks focus at training was communication and space and the boys showed they’ve been listening to the Coaches improving from last weeks game in both areas.

Defence stood strong allowing the Ninjas only one shot on goal which was masterfully stopped by our goalie Sailor. Our midfielders and strikers also had a solid game uniting to launch some formidable attacks getting plenty of shots into the back of the net.  It was an all round team effort today.

Players of the Day went to Parker for really taking on the Coaches instructions from the past week and working on making sure he was positioned perfectly in whatever role he was asked to do.  He also showed off his strong footwork throughout the game and Mason for putting in a solid and reliable effort in the midfield clearing the ball out of the pack numerous times and following up with some great passing to his teammates. Both boys also managed to kick a couple of goals each. Well Done!!

With thanks to Burger Baby ⚽️🍔

U8 Raptors

The under 8s FMR Raptors took on Jets at Churchill Park in Busselton on Sunday, hungry for another win following early season success in round one. After taking few minutes to settle into the first half, the team started to find their rhythm and worked hard to get the ball through up the line for some shots on goal.

The Jet’s Fort Knox defence wasn’t having any of it and the balls were pinged back into the mid-field for more tackling action. The Jet’s were quick to attack when the opportunity arose, with Torin Bishop and Cooper Cordero left to clear some lose balls out of the danger zone.

A quick subbing moved Bodhi Woods and Cohen Harvey into the backline where the solid defensive work continued, backed up by Jay Wheatley who ran a sneaky Jets pass-through over the line in the nick of time to cause a corner.

Nate Johnston was kept busy in goals throughout the half and saved multiple screamers before the Jets got a lucky one across just before break.

Coach Matt’s half time pep talk gave praise to the team for their passing with a special mentions made to Louis Geddes for his excellent on-field positioning setting and Arlo Greenspan for his corner kicks with the set-up being just as practised.

After the quick reprieve, the half started with Bodhi as striker and Coe McGettigan into goals, with both team members proving this a solid decision with their on-field efforts.  Coe showed his skills with several cracking saves at the top of the goal square and some solid goal kicks to follow up.

The Raptors made their own attempts on goal, and successfully moved the ball into attack on multiple occasions but the Jets consistently locked them out with a stacked defensive line.  The game result was a 1-0 in Jets favour however, the game was an excellent display of continually improving skills and good sportsmanship by the FMR Raptors.

Coach Matt commended team members for their resilience, determination and never-give-up attitudes.  Players of Day were the two deserving goalkeepers Nate and Coe.  Well done team, and all the best for next round.

U9 Strikers

A magic morning for football saw the Strikers off to a strong start to the game with Josh, Arlo G and Miles teaming up well to score a few goals. Jake and Arlo D displaying good skills in the mid field to make a positive impact.

Sam staunch in defense and Malakai contributing all over the pitch with some specky headers. Well done to Anouk for getting player of the day…great effort.

Thanks to Capel Pups for the fun game…well defended in goals and evened things up after half time. Strikers were also looking sharp in their new kit thanks to Elders Geographe!

U9 Dragons

In round 2, the FMR Dragons met the Dunsborough Storm. Both teams showcased outstanding teamwork and relentless effort. From the first whistle, the Dragons demonstrated excellent cooperation, passing the ball with precision and supporting each other on the field.

It was an action packed game with a lot of shots on goal, really putting the Storm’s goalie to the test! Every player displayed determination and gave their all, showing true sportsmanship throughout the game.

The match concluded with smiles all around from the Dragons. Goals were scored not just by individual skill, but through collective effort, and every player should be celebrated for their contributions to the game.

Our players of the day today were Harry and Jake, with thanks to sponsors Candy Cow and Squid Lips Margaret River!

U9 Serpents

The Serpents had an enthusiastic away game against Dunsborough Thunder. All the kids were energised and ready to play a fun game

There was some great passages of play between the team and some excellent saves by the goalies, who literally put their bodies on the line.

Dunsborough Thunder saw the opportunity to score and then ran away with the game. Our FMR Serpents showed some real strength and character by not giving up and continued to try their hearts by out.

Players of the match were Noah Nash and Ray Gardiner.  A big thank you to AmazeN for our player of the match awards Woody our coach and all the families for their help and support.  Go Serpents !!!!!!!

U10 Roos

What a stunning day for a game of soccer! The Roos played at home vs Busselton and were keen right from the start to put into action what they have been learning at training taking their time to control the ball before passing and looking up for their teammates with some exceptional passing and communication resulting in goals.

With huge thanks to Witchy Pies for our player of the day voucher this week going to Rosa Watts who in only her second game of soccer played all day with great enthusiasm in whichever position she was asked to play in and scored her very first goal! Well done Roos on another awesome game

U10 Storm

So another beautiful sunny autumn Saturday for another great high scoring game. Storm met the Dunsborough Raptors on the pitch this week. The Raptors had a charger of a start in the first half but Storm came back strong, displayed great passing skills and team work in the second half to finish with a draw.

The Player Of the Day went to Laura James this week. Laura played her position well and was marshalling the rest of the team into theirs. Great team work Laura; enjoy your Burger Baby voucher, well earned.

U10 River Squad

River Squad played Dunsborough Tigers in Dunsborough with kick off at 8.30 am on a cold and dewy pitch. An early goal scored by Dunsborough in the first 5 minutes of the game fired up River Squad to link up through the centre and out wide to space.

It wasn’t long until Connor with pace on the left wing put our first goal into the net assisted with a lovely cross by Luca. From here onwards there was an avalanche of goals for River Squad and they found themselves in a commanding lead at half time with a 4 goal to 1 lead.

The second half continued to see great pressure by our forwards with solid support from defence to hold most of the play in the forward line and a flurry of goals was the result. River Squad’s 5th goal came from a defensive clearance by Heath out wide to Luca who split the defence and crossed to Westi for a tap in past the keeper. Some great tackling and awareness with passing was starting to break open the Dunsborough defence. And so, it continued in a very entertaining fast paced game.

Congratulations to Connor who received this week’s award of goalkicker of the match – enjoy your Burger Baby reward voucher for a free burger and chips!  Thank you Burger Baby – I think Dad deserves a pint also for bringing Connor and Harry up to the game to make up numbers to a full team. Plus Declan for an outstanding game all round – he received a voucher to Amaze’n for a free game of mini golf, cheers to Russ and Cathy at Amaze’n.

U11 Stars

This weekend saw the Stars face a fierce opponent in the BCFC Blades.

A great display of teamwork by the U11 Stars prevented the opponents getting in more goals than they did. Many impressive saves by Isaac Mann and Jaxx McCartney.

Every player put in 100% effort, especially Oscar Atkins, who won player of the match, for giving his all right until the final whistle.

Thank you to The Candy Cow for Oscar's voucher and to Elders Insurance Geographe for our fantastic new kit.

U11 Jettz

It was an evenly matched game, trading goal for goal which ended with both teams scoring equally.

Lenny Grace was like an energiser bunny that didn’t stop, which teamed with Zoe’s epic ball skills and attacking goals made it an exciting game to watch, especially with it only being game 2.  Looking forward to an awesome season ahead.

U12 Stingrays

Stingrays vs Legends

Today's game was an all Margaret River affair, Stingray's versus Legends. Great spirit was shown by both teams. The Stingrays kept to the game plan and attacked well. Towards the end of the match Taj and Lewis entertained the crowd as each almost pulled off a spectacular overhead kick. Players of the day went to Lewis and Cayden.

U12 Legends

Difficult start for legends team against strong Margaret River Stingrays, after the first half the spirit of the Legends came in strong, many of possibilities without luck from our strikers Denzel, Ryder and Ashley.

Player of the Day went to Ami who did an amazing work in defence and supporting the midfield with all her energy .

A big game for Beau as well who did incredible saving as goalie.  A general shout to the whole team for the positivity even if the score wasn’t in our favour.

U13 Warriors

Today, the U13 Warriors played against the Vasse Tigers on the big pitch in Vasse for the first time.

The Warriors won convincingly, bringing their training, game plan, and skills onto the pitch in a stellar effort. The larger pitch was new for most of the team. They used a new structure that allowed them to use the basics well, opening up the field, creating passing options, and helping them keep possession for extended periods.

The team had several goal scorers, including first-season player Luca, who got the first score of the day, Declan, Max, Angus, and our player of the day, Catto, who got a 4-goal haul.

Special mention goes to Holly Mitchell, who played an outstanding game as a centre defensive midfielder (CDM), disrupting the forward movement of the Tigers and setting up plays for our wingers and strikers. The defence played a solid game, and our leadership team communicated well on the field with their teammates, which kept our structure together.

These young people are a great crew to work with, and the culture of our team is an essential part of our game. Thanks to all the families who came and supported the team, Ash and Rob for running the lines and Manager Karen.

U14 Tigers

Away game at Dunsborough today for the U14 Tigers playing the Wanderers. What an absolutely awesome game to watch!! There were nerves and trepidation going into the pitch as the wanderers are a strong team.

The Tigers let a first goal slip in and then another ….. morale wavered for a minute but then we took possession of the ball and took it all the way through to a super goal by Chloe to take the score to 2-1.  Then another goal from Chloe saw us even out the scores to 2-2

Our defenders played so well keeping the oppositions ball out again and again. It was fantastic to see the Tigers working so well as a team and there were with some stand out moves and fast passes from Buster and Jahli who fed through to the strikers.

A cracking goal from Alex took the scores to 2-3 ….woooo Go Tigers !! So many more goals were still to come for both teams.  It was such a close game and it was wonderful to see everyone give it 100% on the pitch.

Alex scored another bringing it back to a draw but unfortunately we just couldn’t hold the win.  Final score was 5-4 to Dunsborough.  Levi made some cracking saves but we just ran out of time to get back the game.

Player of the match today for outstanding defending goes to Charlie Twist -Thank you to Pies & Ale for their donation of a kids meal voucher ⚽️🌟

U14 Sharks

FMR Sharks Vs Dunsborough Roar

The second match of the season proved to be a nail biter.  The Sharks started strong, getting an early edge on the Roar.  Kai Hillier opened the scoring, making the most of a free kick, putting it away with skilful style.  Benji Willing, impressive in attack, backed this up with 2 more goals.  The Sharks managed to control the majority of the possession, with some great defence and passing from Lewis Goddard and Charlie Crimble-Hall.  They were 3 goals ahead at half time, with good reason to be in high spirits.

The second half proved to be a shake up for the Sharks, who really thought they had done enough to secure the win.  The Roar fired up in the face of defeat, and slid a couple of goals past the sleepy Sharks, who had trouble defending the Roars well-rehearsed ‘set move’ corners.

The Roar secured a 3rd goal, evening up the match with only 5 minutes to go.  Vincent Lonnie put in a courageous effort in goals, as the Roar threw everything at him.  Vincent pulled off some truly nimble and acrobatic saves, that later gave him the title of Player of the Day.

Both teams had chances to score in the final minutes, but the Roar, relentless in pursuit of victory, sealed the Sharks fate with a fourth and final goal.  The final score – Sharks 3, Roar 4.  A great effort by the Sharks, who were unlucky to be defeated.

U15 The Blaze

Really good game played by GBFC Seasiders versus FMR The Blaze Saturday.

The Blaze held possession for 70% of the game with some solid kicks to the goals but the Seasiders Keeper was too good. He defended well, as did our Keepers Jarrah then Poom for The Blaze.

First goal of the game by The Blaze was set up by Archie to Jay to Stirling.  Second goal by Archie.  Third goal by Jarrah who came out of goal. Well done!

Poom held the GK defence but Seasides slipped one in.  This spurred us on with  goals by Stirling and Archie following to give us the win.

Player of the Day was William Newnham with some solid defence. Thank you the SquidLips for POD voucher.

YL Wanderers

With a focus on continual improvement, the FMR Wanderers executed the skills practiced in training, developing the confidence to handle pressure when playing out from the back.

In an evenly matched, fast paced game, both teams went into the break nil all with both keepers making some strong saves. Although Geographe were first to find the back of the net early in the second half, FMR responded shortly after with a well placed header finish by Cohan Collier off a sweet corner from Fynn Lange.

With several opportunities for both sides in the final 20 minutes, Geographe managed a second goal taking the match 2 – 1. Our player of the day was Noah Churchill who played a strong match at CB, showing great composure and implementing our gameplan from the back.

In one of the best plays of the day, Noah was involved in several passes deep in defence to maintain possession and drawing opposition, before driving a superb 40-meter pass to an open Fynn Lange in the middle of the ground, with time and space. Thanks to Squid Lips for supporting FMR.
