Round One

And we’re back!  27 FMR teams hit the pitch ready to play their first game for the season!  And for a number of kids, their very first game of Club soccer!!

It’s great to see our numbers growing each season.  This year we have moved our U6-U9 Teams to Rapids Landing for training and games to accommodate the growth of the Club and help the Pitches maintain condition throughout the season.  Soccer is getting B.I.G. in Margaret River.  We are the biggest Club in the Leeuwin Naturalise Junior Soccer Association, and our future is looking good!

Onto the games.

U6 Lightning

The U6 teams had their opening Gala Day in Vasse this year.  10 x U6 teams from the LNJSA Clubs hit the pitch ready for their first ever games of Club soccer.  It was great fun to watch them run and play.

U7 Ninja’s

The Ninjas were buzzing with excitement as they took to the pitch for their very first game of the season, 2025. For many, it was their debut on the field, and the original Ninjas—Mack, Leo, Vinnie, and luke—led the way, showing the new team members how it’s done with fantastic sportsmanship and leadership. Together, they helped guide Margaret River through a tremendously successful opening match.

The visiting GMAS Giants came down to challenge us and showcase their talent, but the Ninjas proved just too strong. The new recruits made their mark quickly, with Eli racking up an impressive number of goals in his first game. Brady earned the “Toughest on the Field” title for his incredible resilience—after taking a ball to the face, he got right back up and kept playing with determination and heart.

The Ninjas wrapped up their first match with smiles all round. Spirits are high, and the whole team is already looking forward to next week’s under-seven Derby, where we’ll take on some familiar faces from past teams.  Go Ninjas!

U7 Falcons

It was a blustery start at our new home ground Rapids Landing but the Falcons took the game on with great excitement. So many new players took the field representing FMR for the first time and showed both great skills and team spirit. The Falcons are a determined group of kids, it's going to be an exciting season. Well done to Estelle and Billy for player of the day.

U8 The Messi Kids

The Messi Kids got their season off to a great start with a win over the DTFC Thunder. The visitors opened the scoring with an early goal but Messi Kids answered back with some excellent passing and communication to set Ezra up for his first goal of the season. Not long after, Messi kids scored again as Quinn got his first goal of the season. DTFC answered back putting a lot of pressure on the Messi Kids defence and were able to get their second goal. Both teams continued to challenge, and compete until half time where the score was tied. A change of goal tenders for Messi kids at half time saw player of the game Teddy go in net. He made some excellent saves earning a shut out in his second half. His goal kicks and clearings were on point, going to the sides and finding his open team mates. Quinn was able to get two more goals, and Ezra another as well. High fives and smiles all around at the end of a great opening game!

U8 Magic

The Magic hit the road for their first game of the season, playing away against the Dunsborough Warriors. Remi, this week’s captain, led with smart passing and solid defence. Mo showed strength in attack with fierce determination and powerful striking, netting two goals, while Clive impressed with footwork, ball control and solid goalkeeping in the second half. Elbi showed great grit, holding her ground against tough defence. Mason made a strong debut, scoring in the second half and blocking goals in defence. Mitchell brought serious pace in both attack and defence, while Lucas created multiple scoring opportunities with strong runs through the centre.

Charlie earned Player of the Day for bravely jumping into goals for the first half — his first time ever in the role! He shook off the nerves, owned the box, and played like a natural. A big thank you to Coach James for his upbeat energy, encouragement, and steady guidance that kept the team fired up and focused and a shout out to Two Cracks Coffee for supporting us with the Player of the Day voucher. A fantastic start to what’s shaping up to be an exciting season for Margret River Magic!

U9 Raptors

The Raptors had an amazing first game , full of enthusiasm and excited to be back on the ground. Jay went onto the field with determination and scored goal after goal. Arlo did incredibly well passing the ball and even kicked a left footed goal. Hemi who is a new Raptor and was a very impressive goal keeper. Can’t wait to see the Raptors next match.

U9 Mavericks

It was as wild and windy day for the 2025 Under 9's season opener at Rapids Landing. Some early rain didn't hamper proceedings and before we knew it the season was under way.  FMR Mavericks vs FMR Rovers.  The score didn’t go our way at the final whistle ,disappointing for the home team but they fought a good fight and never stopped trying. If today was anything to go by it is going to be a fantastic season of football with great support from spectators and some great sportsmanship shown on the field.

Eddie McGrath earned himself POD with 2 goals and used his voucher wisely on a juice box and a delicious brownie from the Rapids canteen.

U10 Strikers

The Strikers began the season with a strong performance, making for a very close and exciting game.  A fantastic effort was put in by 2 new players to the club with Mateo in defence with 2 strong headers, and Lorenzo managing to get a goal!

The Strikers played really well as a team with everyone getting lots of ball time both in defence and offense positions. Great work to Arlo scoring 2 goals and Archer getting player of the match and winning a $5 canteen voucher with his persistence in defence.

U10 Wasps

The FMR U10 Wasps took on Dunsborough in an exciting and closely contested match that saw both teams go goal for goal throughout. It was an even battle from start to finish, with both sides showing great determination and skill. Despite the Wasps' strong effort, Dunsborough managed to edge ahead in the final stages to claim the win.

Hugo was named Player of the Day for his outstanding energy and commitment in both attack and defence, making a real impact all over the pitch. Thanks to Yahava for this week's sponsor of POD. A special mention also goes to Deccy, who had a dream debut for FMR, scoring an impressive hat-trick and showing plenty of promise for the games ahead.  A spirited performance from the whole team—well done, Wasps!

U10 Dragons

The U10 Dragons reunited today, with all players returning from last year as well as welcoming some new players into our football family. The team have been eagerly awaiting the start of the season, and were buzzing to kick it off against a fellow FMR team, the Serpents.

It was a fantastic performance from the Dragons. Match highlights were seeing some quick and clever passing, the team communicating well across the pitch and doing well in holding their positions.  It was a really positive start and we look forward to seeing what magic the Dragons will produce as the season progresses. Our first player of the day was Finley, who will be enjoying a milkshake at Yallingup Maze.

U10 Serpents

The Serpents V Dragons derby was an exciting match. The Dragons brought their A-game, so it was lucky we had Elsie and Thiago in the goals who were successful in stopping many goals throughout the game. Jonnie was awarded player of the day for his quick moves and ability to gain possession of the ball. Thanks to Yallingup Maze for the POD voucher and supporting our local club. Special mention for Sasha who played confidently in her first ever soccer game. With 5 new players on the team, the Serpents played well together. Thanks to the energetic new coaches Monty and Benji, we look forward to watching the team grow throughout the season!! Go Serpents!

U11 Roos

It was Derby Day at our home ground but Storm put on the fantastic green shirts for the away uniform! Both teams played really well. Every corner of the pitch was used. Both showing great defence and some amazing shots for goals. Congratulations to our first time players. Awesome effort! Special shout out to Bianca for the half time oranges, gave the players the extra legs for the second half. Player of the day thanks to Yahava Coffe house to Annabelle Adam’s, first game and straight into it, great work on the side throw ins.

U11 Storm

The U11 Storm kicked off their season with a thrilling derby clash against the U11 Roos. From the first whistle, both teams showed incredible energy, with smiles and determination lighting up the pitch. The action was non-stop, and it felt like some of the players had rockets for feet as the ball flew across the field! The match ended in a hard-fought draw, with every player giving it their all. Player of the Day went to the whole team for an outstanding group effort. Also a big welcome to Felix, our new assistant coach. We’re thrilled to have you on board. Go Storm!

U12 Breakers

The Breakers V Jetts derby proved to be a close opening match. The Jetts proved formidable as they scored the first goal. Zoe from the Breakers returned fire with an incredible goal that launched into the back of the net to win POD. Charlotte played with confidence in defence and mid field to also claim POD. The final five minutes saw the Jetts score a critical goal in a hard fought match.

U12 Stars

Great to start another season with the U12 Stars. We were lucky to watch the dark clouds float by overhead and miss the rain. The game started with equal possession however the Cornerstone team were a tighter team who were able to get the ball up the pitch more efficiently scoring a few goals. The Stars didn't give up hope and were able to get one back before half time.

A more equal second half provided some good play from both sides. It'll be exciting to see how the Stars with increased confidence and aggression on the ball will improve into the season.

Player of the day and winner of a $5 canteen voucher, went to Samson Kerr for being a key player in the game, showing impressive tackling skills. You wouldn't have known it was his first game!  Exciting times ahead for The Stars.

U12 Jettz

The Jettz first game back to the season was epic to watch . The team playing like they hadn’t just had 6 months off, with 3 new players who look like they’ve always belonged as part of the Jettz. Flow had so much determination proving that she will be another strong girl in the team. Yeah The Girls. She ran hard and didn’t stand back with second and third efforts to retain the ball for our team. Rosa is a strong athletic new team member and I can’t wait to see her at the next game. Mason proved today he is made for centre position as he can be all over the field. Zoe is a weapon on the field and performs week in and out. Wyatt had great goalkeeping skills today with a good eye of where the ball needed to go. The final score was 4-1.  Every player from the team did amazing today and it was so great to see all of the kids faces and the new soccer season begin. Bring it on.

U12 Legends

What a fantastic way to kick off the season! After a strong preseason and plenty of hard work at training, the team came out prepared and focused. The performance across the pitch was incredible, with every player showing skill, teamwork, and determination. It was a joy to watch such beautiful soccer being played.

Players of the Game went to Indi and Westi – both stood out with outstanding performances and great attitude on the field with thanks to Yahava.  Well done, team! Let’s keep the momentum going into next week!

U13 Wyverns

In their season opener, the Wyverns played as a united team, with every player stepping up when it mattered most. They secured a 6–1 victory, with Banjo scoring the season’s first goal—the only one in the first half. The second half saw Michael take control, making his presence felt all over the field. Midway through, Nigel made an impressive solo run from the center of the pitch to score the team’s fifth goal. Strong defensive efforts were also key to the win, and for his standout performance, Zed was named Best Player by Coach Gary and received an FMR club canteen voucher.

U14 Rockets

The Rockets had their work cut out for the first game of the season against a sharp and inform GMAS Gladiators.  The Gladiators came out firing and scored two quick goals during the first half of the first half. The Rockets replied when Albi saw an opening and lobbed the ball over the goalie to put the Rockets on the scoreboard. The Rockets never gave in, always going hard at the ball and looking for opportunities for passing and at goal. However the Gladiators wall like defence, sharp passing and ball handling proved too much for the Rockets in the end.  Someone said that you learn more from your losses than your wins and Coach Jay will get the team looking sharp in no time.  Players of the day were Laec, Monty and Riley.

U15 Tigers

A tough first game back for the tigers against a talented Geographe side. Starting off with some great saves by Levi under a lot of pressure. Solid forward pressure from Riley, Luca, Arie and Jahli resulted in an early goal for Alex. Some other close calls with great strikes from Em kept their keeper on his toes, until Luca converted. Charlie and Mia were strong in defence and the teams went into the half at 2 goals each.

Both teams came out strong in the second half with Mia and Piper shining in defence. Some fantastic saves by Riley in goals and Alex and Jahli were unlucky not to convert some great shots. Geographe peppered the goals in the second half and in the end managed to convert another 2 shots to win the game 4-2.  POD Charlie Twist who scored an FMR canteen voucher.

YL Blaze

It was great to be back on the pitch (especially when the sun was shining) as we headed to Dunsborough to face the Jets in the opening round of the 2025 season.  First game for our new team, with a new Coach and the first year of Youth League for most!  Excitement and anticipation was in the air. We started the game strong, with Kai as centre back leading the defence and Kade having an early run at goal.  Dunsborough also had their chances, but neither team was able to convert with both sides defence proving difficult to combat.  That changed when the Jets snuck a header past Henry to get the first goal of the game.  Not long after they scored their second, but their next few attempts were stopped by Keeper Henry.

Up the other end of the pitch a valiant attempt by Sid to run the ball down after a pass across the box didn’t go our way.  A Kade, Sid and Sonny combo looked on target, but was saved by the keeper.  Sonny had another chance but there was another save. In the second half, Duns scored their third despite a valiant attempt by Charlie and Henry to thwart their chances.   This was followed quickly by their fourth.

Kai had a run up the pitch beating their defence, but his shot was saved by their keeper. A (lucky for us) fumble in the box by the Duns keeper gave Sid a chance and he didn’t hesitate to knock it in to get us on the board.  Sid had another lovely kick but just went wide and his next shot saved by keeper. Nice clearing from our defenders, Kai, Charlie, Digby, William and Poom didn’t make it easy for the Jets.

Captain Sonny was chasing down the ball with intensity, leading us in the middle. Caspian was giving it his all, as was Charlie, Scarlett and Tilly. Duns attack didn’t stop trying.  A nice header from William got the ball out, but strikers were unable to get a shot.  A nice run by Sid and Kade got the ball in the box. After a scramble with the defence, Tilly got her foot on it, but lady luck wasn’t with us and it hit the post.

Henry working hard in our goals made another save. William stopped their next run piling on the pressure and clearing it out, but Duns regained possession to claim another goal. A pass up from Sonny to William to Kai gave us a chance but was saved by keeper, and that was the end of the game.

Not the result we wanted, but Coach Matt was happy with our intensity and heart, giving it our all, with only 1 sub and a couple of injuries.  Was a good start to the season regardless of the result.  Our defenders put a good shift in. Digby and Charlie did a good job shutting down their Duns player.   The midfield worked tirelessly as did our strikers, never giving up and taking the opportunities when they presented. POD went to todays Captain and our “engine room” Sonny in the centre, who worked tirelessly and showed great leadership.

YL Wanderers

For the first game of the season, the FMR YL Wanders side travelled to Dunsborough to take on Cornerstone (CS). Fielding a different side from last year, the Wanders welcomed back SWP players Saxon, Bobby, Reef and George, with Ethan, Stirling, Oli and Jay joining from last season’s U15 side. Coach Clarel has done an amazing job providing a strong preseason enabling the players to familiarise themselves with the new team and building core fitness

The opening minutes were filled with some first game jitters but grew quickly into a high pace battle where both teams were definitely on, putting relentless pressure on who ever had the ball. Open space was hard to find and sharp skills were required to create any opportunities. Saxon set a strong tone early with some strong physical presence around the ball and the midfield went to work feeding the ball out to those in better space. As the players settled, the Wanders started to find good connection and held the ball in their attacking half for significant periods. Ethan and Stirling continually threaten up forward making life difficult for CS backman with their pace and footwork before Stirling got off a nice shot that unfortunately went just wide. The Wanders backline were strong working together, with Reef and Noah either playing back through keeper George to reload or passing out wide to release Lucas and Xav up the line. Xav and Zane had their hands full with a pacey skilled winger but fought hard and squashed every run. Watching from the sidelines it felt it was only a matter of time before the Wanders score before CS took their only real chance, a free kick just before halftime, that cleared the defence, skidding through awkwardly for the keeper allowing their striker to kick their first.

The second half was similar to the first, played at high intensity. The Wanders played some clean team football, breaking lines with one touch passes and strong runs through the middle and from the back out wide through Lucas and Xav. Wanders started taking more shots with Taj hitting a strong left well out of the box that looked to be sailing over CS keepers head only to be denied by a stretching glove tapping it over the top bar. Ryder worked hard defensively keeping the ball within our attacking half. Shortly after Bobby found great space in the box and took a clean strike on target that was saved by CS keeper. Malik showed tenacity taking on several players down the wing to find himself in the box with his shot going across the face. With very limited opportunities and going against the flow of play, CS  scored their 2nd goal off a long ball played over the midfield and defence, then finished from a brilliant effort off an impossible angle to win 2 - 0

Although they didn’t take the points, there was so much to like about how the Wanders played their first game, laying the foundations for a strong season of team football. Malik and Saxon were POD providing strong run through the midfield and never say die defensive efforts throughout the game.
