Round two

Round 2! It was a sea of yellow in Busselton on Monday night as all 4 teams playing the Dev Squads came from FMR. Some playing their second game of the Round, Great to see us out there playing our hearts out.

U7 Falcons

The U7 derby was met with great excitement from both Ninjas and Falcons. The Falcons showed great grit and determination in defence today. A never give up attitude by all Falcons on the field was on display. We will continue to improve and look forward to the rematch. Special shout out to Winston and Ashton for player of the day.  They’ll enjoy a snack courtesy of Two Cracks Coffee and Yahava.

U7 Ninja’s

Our Ninjas kicked off the season with a bang in their first derby match against the Falcons—and what a match it was! Full of energy, excitement, and some familiar faces from last year, the game was both competitive and fun, as we found ourselves versing classmates and friends from across the field.

One of the key challenges was staying focused and working together as a team while playing against people we know—but the Ninjas handled it with maturity and great sportsmanship. Our focus for the game was to apply pressure in the forward line and make sure the Falcons’ defence was put to the test—and the team delivered!

Standout Performers of the Week:  Clayton impressed us all by taking skills learned during the week’s training and applying them confidently in the game. Leo edge stood out for his strong focus and leadership in showing what true sportsmanship looks like—something we’ve been working on both on and off the field. We’re so proud of the team’s efforts and attitude. A huge thanks to all the supporters on the sidelines. We can’t wait for next week’s game!  Go Ninjas!

U8 Messi Kids

It was raining more than just goals this week when The Messi Kids faced off against DTFC Comets in an overcast showdown at home. The wet weather didn’t dampen the team’s spirits, with every player showing grit, determination, and brilliant teamwork from the first whistle to the last.

From the back line to the forward line, the Messi Kids were on fire with strong defence, clever dribbling, and courageous tackles. Jack earned Player of the Day for showing incredible perseverance and resilience — after a couple of falls, he bounced straight back up and got stuck in again, delivering some powerful kicks and smart passes to him team.

Quinn was a ball magnet, showing off epic skills, confident dribbling, and fearless tackles that helped turn defence into attack. Eliana impressed with her determined defending, chasing down the ball and working hard to bring it back to our side. Teddy was a standout in defence with some radical moves that stopped the other team in their tracks — his hustle was awesome to watch!

In goals, Malakai and Sonny took turns putting their bodies on the line, pulling off some brilliant saves and keeping the game tight. Every player contributed to a game full of effort, persistence and fun. A big thanks as always to FMR for their continued support. Go Messi Kids!

U8 Magic

Great energy and performances all across the squad. Solid and inspiring goalkeeping from Elbi and Mason, including a Superman save from Mason. Amazing energy from Clive and Remi in midfield, moving the ball and linking defence and attack. Mo sharp and explosive in attack, pulling the defence around and banging in goals. Player of the match moment came from Mitchell, amazing tackle to steal the ball in midfield and instantly releasing Mo with a golden pass to assist a goal. The freedom in attack all made possible by the amazing platform of energy, passing and movement from Charlie and Zephyr, always willing to get into the game. The best compliment coming from the opposition coaches, thanking us for such a fun game for both teams.

U9 Rovers

The AMR Rovers took on The Cornerstone Jets and came out on top this week.  Some fancy footwork by Theo got the Rovers on the board early and then the goals in the first half didn’t stop coming. The boys had some impressive runs forward through Mason, Ithan and Reef and The Jets had a hard time penetrating their forward half with Toby and Jimmy in defence.

In the second half, hard running from Matty and Sailor and some strong tackles from Ari saw plenty of opportunity to score but The Jets defence managed to keep us to two goals.

Player of the day went to Toby Maxwell

U9 Legends XI

The Legends XI put on a fantastic display in an exciting and well-fought game. Every player shone brightly while trying out new positions, showing great teamwork and adaptability. Player of the Day Koby Thomson led by example with a standout performance, guided brilliantly by coaches Jarrad and Luke.

U9 Raptors

Nate was on fire in the first half with some ripper goals while Nissi and Torin provided solid defence with some skilled passing to midfield.  Coe did not stop running in midfield creating great pressure and Arlo saved a fierce shot at goal from the Dunsborough Dragons.

Hemi, Cohen and Bodhi continued the momentum in the second half with relentless attacking and following up on the ball up front with great support from Jay and Louis too and Jed in goal.

The team did a great job of staying in positions on the field, passing to each other and creating space throughout the game.  An epic set up for the rest of the season.

Players of the day were Nissi and Hemi with vouchers from Yahava Koffee Works and the FMR canteen.

U9 Mavericks

It was a beautiful day at Rapids for the match between FMR Legends and FMR Mavericks.  Mavericks epic skills were on show and the new team are showing real promise for season 2025.  The scores were level for the majority of the match but 2 more goals from the Legends sealed the win. POD Kyra was very happy with her well deserved pick and looking forward to celebrating with her Yahava voucher.

U10 Strikers

The sun came out for the match at Gloucester Park as the FMR U10 Strikers ignited their performance against the DFTC Fire. The Strikers came out firing, establishing an early lead with a swift pair of goals courtesy of Josh and Arlo.G.

The team's offensive efforts were a joy to watch, with a flurry of players including Archer, Josh, Miles, Chase, and Arlo.G all scoring impressive goals. Meanwhile, at the other end of the pitch, the Strikers' formidable defence, marshalled by Josh, Lorenzo, Mateo, and Arlo.D, stood strong, effectively stifling the opposition's advances.

Goalkeepers Sam and Malakai were in exceptional form, proving to be a formidable barrier and keeping the Fire at bay. Remarkably, despite half the Strikers squad being new to the team this year, their cohesive movement and smooth teamwork were evident. Notable runs and some clever passes and play from Chase, Osiris, and Archer, already a clear testament to the excellent coaching from coach Dane.

Following an outstanding team performance, Chase was deservedly named Player of the Match and will no doubt enjoy a well-earned treat from Yahava.

U10 Dragons

This Saturday, the FMR Dragons had their first away game of the season against the Dunsborough Lightning. Contests with the Lightning in last seasons have been a challenge for the Dragons and this one proved no different!

It was a fast paced match from the get-go. We saw a lot of quick passing and brave tackles from the Dragons, while they were under constant pressure from the Lightning. The Lightning’s strikers kept our defence on their toes and had our goalies in both halves quite literally leaping into the air! The intense nature and even skill level of our opponent was great learning experience for the Dragons. While the kids all left the pitch happy with their performance and the result, it revealed some areas for focus and learning for future training sessions. We play in Dunsborough again next week so will be back with our A game!

Our player of the day was Fred, who will enjoy a treat from Two Cracks Coffee. Nice one, Fred!

U10 Serpents

Home turf, Margaret River. A battle in the wet. The Serpents took the field, ready to strike.

The first half was a slippery affair, with rain ensuring no one stayed dry for long. But the Serpents embraced the challenge, showing grit and determination from the first whistle.

Raya and Noah put in outstanding shifts in goal, standing their ground and making crucial saves when it mattered.

The defensive trio of Charlie, Ray and Sasha held firm. Heroic stops and well-timed clearances proved the Serpents' resilience under pressure.

Abigail showcased incredible teamwork and bagged the first goal of the season—a special moment for the team! Noah and Thiago combined brilliantly, threading passes like seasoned pros before Noah found the back of the net, sending the Serpents’ supporters into a frenzy.

Up front Jonnie, Elsie, Thiago and Noah were relentless. Elsie, fearless and sharp-footed, weaved through defenders with skilled footwork, never backing down. Jonnie was an engine across the field, halting Lightning’s advances while maintaining bounds of energy throughout the game.

Against strong opponents, the Serpents proved their resilience, determination and ability to strike when it mattered most. A huge thank you to Jason for stepping up as coach and Roh for keeping things running smoothly as referee!

🏅 Players of the day went to:

🔥 Elsie—Fearless, relentless and showing incredible footwork throughout! Never gave up and kept attacking with confidence.

⚡ Abigail—Amazing teamwork and netting that first goal—what a moment!

A brilliant match, Serpents! 🐍⚽

U11 Roos

Slightly wet conditions. Some great slides for the ball. It was a good game. It was a tough game, but great to see the Roos use communication to each other and keep a positive attitude. Also great to see the players keep their positions and focus on working as a team. Player of the day went to Louie who received a voucher to Two Cracks Coffee, early reports were he was making a detour on the way home to enjoy a milkshake! Well Done Louie. Great team work Roos.

U11 Storm

This week’s match brought both rain and sunshine — and while our gardens may have soaked it up, so did the kids! The U11 Storm showed their trademark spirit embracing the weather. As the rain eased in the second half, the team really found their stride — defending in numbers, attacking with intent, and showing great communication across the pitch. While the scoreboard didn’t tip our way this week, Storm played with heart, determination, and growing teamwork. POD went to Declan Hindmarsh. Every game is a step forward — and we’re proud of how they played together. Go Storm!

U12 Breakers

Despite a valiant effort, U12 Breakers fell short in a tough match against the BCFC Blades today. Felix lifted team spirits in his first game for the season to win POD. Sienna played an awe inspiring game in defence, chasing players down to win POD. Special mention to goalie Drayke and mid fielder Isaac for their determined efforts in goals.

U12 Stars

The second game for The Stars started with a burst of energy, excitement, and enthusiasm. This approach led to them taking control of the game from the very start.

Goal attempts were spread across the team in the first half with Oscar Atkins and Luke Harvey scoring the first few goals. An early call, but what may be the goal of the season, from Isaac Mann. A powerful strike from almost at the halfway line was an impressive sight.

The fun didn't stop there with Taj Cawse and Freddy Dargue adding to the energy of the game and getting some extra goals in.

During this game there was great team play, aggression on the ball and excellent passing. The player who showed all these skills and was integral to the success of the team was Player of the Day Hugo Christian. He will enjoy a treat from Two Cracks Coffee in Cowaramup.

U12 Legends

Rainy skies, but perfect soccer weather this morning in Margaret River.

It was an exciting all-Margaret River clash – Legends vs Jettz – and both teams brought the energy. The Legends struck early with a great opening goal and set the tempo, but the Jettz gradually fought their way back.

The Legends showed incredible determination, fighting hard until the very end and leaving everything on the pitch.

Players of the day: Beau – with some amazing saves in goal. Noah – showing outstanding defensive skills and grit throughout the match keep going this way guys!  A great game played with passion and team spirit from all!

U13 Wyverns

A great start to the game with pressure from both teams. Two near misses from the Development Squad, with the Wyverns defence keeping up. 1st goal to Dev Squad. Strong team skills from both teams, 2 great saves by Dev Squad keeper. Good saves from keeper Benji for Wyverns. 2nd goal Dev Squad, brilliant end to the 1st half.

In the 2nd half - 2nd goal Dev Squad, Wyverns near miss on a goal, but then scored our 1st goal. With intensity growing Wyverns score their 2nd goal. With 2 all score, the game was a ripper! Well done to both teams.  Best player Wyverns Tommy Tunnel.

U13 Stingrays

The Stingrays got off to a fantastic start for the season with a convincing 6-3 victory against GBFC Seasiders.  Demonstrating entertaining and fluid football they strung together some wonderful moves for early goals by Lewis Hitchcock,  Ryder Moore, and Taj McCrickard.  As the Seasiders began to mount a late comeback man of the match Cayden Del Barrio and his fellow defenders managed to hold the fort, resulting in deserved victory for the Stingrays.  Thanks to Yahava.

U14 Rockets

It was a home derby for the Rockets. There was uncertainty before the match, and as the ball started rolling, it was clear the teams were pretty even and skills were high on both sides. It was anyone’s game.  The rain came down as unforgiving as the Rockets’s energy on the field.

After an skilful assist from Austin, Dom got a touch with his right foot, rolled it out and shot it with the strength of a thunder, hitting the back of the net. It was the validation the team needed! Soon the Rockets started to show why their reputation precedes them.  Warriors started to put pressure and Rockets defence were well aware of the dangers that come with a full force attack from them.

A collision between Darcy and Kalani (Warriors) ended with a penalty. And Gabe scored for the Warriors, 1x1.  The second half saw Warriors push Rockets defence. Who didn’t disappoint and kept the ball out of the danger zone.  Before we knew, Archie kicked, the goalkeeper fisted straight up, and Myles finished with a beautiful goal.  The Rockets were relentless, putting pressure worthy of a FIFA  final.

Darcy kicked a long ball through an opening on the side, and without missing a step Austin shot, shaking the net for a third time.  Warriors rushed to recover, after a slip on defence they scored a second goal.  An incredible derby, with talented players on  both sides. But in the end, Rockets took home the win.  Player of the Day goes to Darcy. Well done Rockets 🚀

U14 Warriors

It’s always good fun getting into our local derbies in Margaret River. This week, the Warriors were the home team against the Rockets. It was on from the first kick-off to full-time, and it was a well-contested game with all onlookers from both teams enjoying it. We came under pressure immediately with the Rockets getting the first score, but we had it back even quickly with Gabe landing a penalty. Our players had their hands full in the midfield, winning the ball often. The game was end-to-end quickly in both directions. We got in close several times but were kept out by the Rockets' defence. Our defence and GK had to keep on their toes. In the second, Declan carried one forward and landed a shot in the goal. Player of the match for us went to one of our new members, Pedro, who is quick, determined, and keeps up on the ball. The Warriors are rebuilding this season, and six new players have been welcomed into the side. Congratulations to the Derby winners, The Rockets. We’re looking forward to the season ahead.

U15 Tigers

The U14 Development Squad delivered a commanding performance with a 4-0 victory over the Tigers in a spirited and physically demanding match.

The game started brightly for the Development Squad, who found the back of the net early, setting the tone for the match. Despite relentless pressure, the Tigers' goalkeeper produced a string of incredible saves that kept the scoreline respectable in the first half.

Strong defensive work from the Tigers throughout the match made life difficult for the attacking side, but a penalty just before half-time doubled the Development Squad's lead to 2-0.

The second half opened in similar fashion, with the Development Squad striking again early to extend their lead. A late goal sealed a convincing 4-0 result.

Standout performances came from Piper, Charley, Mia, and Ben, who held the backline with confidence and composure. In attack and midfield, Alex, Jahli, Fiona, Riley, and Emillie showed great determination and creativity, capitalising on every opportunity.

U15 Sharks

The Sharks found themselves short for the first match of the season, taking on the BCFC Lions with just 10 players.  The Lions scored some early goals, as the sharks were figuring out how to deal with the extra space and missing players from their midfield.  2 excellent goals from Benji helped lift spirits, with the half time score 3 goals to Busselton, 2 to Margaret River.

The sharks looked the stronger team in the first 5 minutes of the second half, but as the clock ticked on, they just didn’t have the legs to create the opportunities. The final score was Busselton 6,  Margaret River 2. Excellent performance in the midfield by Sienna, and relentless chasing and effort from Ziggy.  The defensive efforts were huge, special mention to Mateja, who was player of the day.   Thanks to FMR for the Canteen Vouchers.

YL Blaze

Round 2 had us under lights in Busselton on Monday night meeting the Development Squad.  It was a hard fought contest and the result didn’t reflect our tenacity and effort on the pitch.  The whole team played some excellent football and while we had our chances, only a perfect header by Kade hit the back of the net.  Everyone out there played as a team.  They created opportunities and didn’t give up. Coach Matt said the score doesn’t reflect the quality of football that was played. We will keep training hard and we will get the breaks. Great effort by all.

YL Wanderers

Right from the outset Margaret River Wanderers came to play, mirroring last weeks high energy start with some nice early chances. Dunsborough tried to match the Wanderers energy and positive style of play but it was only a matter of time before Margaret River were rewarded when striker Ryder drew a foul in the box resulting in a penalty that was converted by a cool headed Saxon. Not long after Ryder disguised a cross that somehow found the back of the net (maybe from the outside of his boot or something 😂) from then on the momentum grew as MR went on a tear with multiple goal scorers including Taj who was on target after previously providing plenty of nice passes to setup scoring opportunities. Great goals from Saxon and Bobby, a goal from Zane after a lone run down the wing and a welcome to youth league hat-trick from Stirling. Despite great defending from the backs and defensive mids led by Noah, Reef, Xavier and co, Dunsborough managed to get one back from a nice corner which gave them a temporary boost and later were rewarded a penalty which was brilliantly saved by the big right hand of our keeper Lucas. Overall it was excellent for the boys to get their first win of the season and a great watch for the MR supporters. POD went to Noah.
