Round 4

There was a distinct chill in the air for Round 4.  Luckily the rain was short and sharp, and didn’t dampen the spirits of the kids on the pitch!  And if it did, there was always the hot chocolates in the canteen to warm them up after.

U6 Lightning

This weekend, our Under 6 Lightening team took to the field under a light drizzle — but that didn’t dampen their spirits one bit! ⚽️⚡️ The players were full of energy, enthusiasm, and ready for action.

The field was a little slippery, but our team adapted quickly. We saw some fantastic teamwork, clever passes, and determined defence all throughout the match. The light rain even added a bit of extra fun, with a few slides and some muddy boots by the end!

Special thanks to our legend volunteer umpires for the day Benji King and Alex Ralston!

Player of the Day: Samuel Gobrets

U7 Falcons

U7 Falcons took on Cornerstone this weekend and what a game. The teams were so even it was exciting to watch the battle. On one pitch Marshall and Archer defended with some big kicks whilst Marco, Ashton and Winston attacked the goals with some speed.

On pitch two our youngest stars, Billy and Zephyr were guided by our experienced crew Estelle, Owen, Matthew and Finn.  Big thanks to two cracks coffee in Cowaramup for our player of the day vouchers - Zephyr and Marco

U7 Ninja’s

As winter rolled in with heavy skies and brooding park clouds, Margaret River’s home pitch became the stage for a dramatic and hard-fought match between the local Ninjas and the visiting team from Vasse. Despite the lingering drizzle, the storm that truly rolled in came in the form of fierce competition — and a stunning performance by the home side.

Vasse arrived in sharp form, fielding two strong and well-drilled teams that showcased their growing cohesion and development since last season. From the outset, it was clear they meant business — and the Ninjas welcomed the challenge.

Led by captains Leo and Luke, the Ninjas entered the day prepared to test themselves. With recent weeks focused on strategic play, discipline, and skill execution, the team rose to the occasion and delivered one of their most compelling matches to date.

The Ninjas executed with sharp intent — displaying slick passing combinations, smart footwork, and goal setups that kept the crowd buzzing. Back-to-back goals and calculated team play kept the tempo high, while strong communication and positioning under pressure showed just how far this team has come.

A standout on the day was new recruit Oliver, whose presence in defence was commanding. His tackling and movement showed maturity and control beyond his years, with each play reinforcing the development of his personal game.

But the star of the show was Vinny, whose performance drew cheers and applause across the pitch. Vinnie accounted for nearly 25% of the team’s goals, delivering not only volume but quality — his vision, pace, and finishing ability left a mark on players and spectators alike.

Also earning praise were Henry and Brady, whose consistent efforts and reliability once again anchored the team’s momentum. Their work ethic and contribution never go unnoticed.

With a scheduled bye next weekend, most teams would enjoy the break — but not these Ninjas. Eager to stay sharp and united, the team has already put forward the idea of a friendly mini-match, reinforcing just how deep their commitment and love for the game runs.

This match wasn’t just a win on the scoreboard — it was a win in spirit, in growth, and in team unity. FMR is building something special, and the Ninjas are just getting started.

U8 Magic

The Magic faced off against the Vasse Mambas at home this week, powering through cold and rainy conditions with determination and spirit.

The first half was evenly matched, with both teams working hard and creating chances. Remi was in goals and pulled off some brilliant saves, keeping the Mambas at bay and sending some huge kicks forward to launch attacks.

In the second half, the Magic came out firing. Zephyr took over as goalie and was just as strong - making some key saves and delivering big, accurate clears that set up our midfield. The whole team lifted, showing great awareness, passing, and teamwork. “Eyes up!” was the call, and the players really took it on board—finding space and working beautifully together.

Savannah was quick to close down opponents, stealing the ball and turning play back our way with great determination. Mason was strong in defense as always and his and Charlie’s passing helped open up the field. Clive burst through the centre with speed and slotted some great goals. Mo, this week’s captain was quick and composed, finishing off a brilliant run and hitting the back of the net twice. Remi also added to the tally with a confident strike, and Lucas was electric - fast on the ball and always ready to turn the game around with a brilliant goal of his own.

Elbi was our well-deserved Player of the Day, rock-solid in defense and fearless even when outnumbered three to one!! Big thanks to Two Cracks Coffee for the Player of the Day voucher!  A fantastic performance and an all-round great team effort from the Magic!

U9 Legends XI

Today, Legends 11 didn’t just show up, they lit up the field. From the very first whistle, every single player gave it their all. There wasn’t a moment where anyone was holding back. Whether they were starting or sitting on the bench, the energy, enthusiasm, and team spirit were sky-high. Even the benchwarmers stayed fully engaged in the game, focused, encouraging their teammates, and ready to jump in the moment their number was called. That’s what being part of a team is all about.

The goal attempts today were awesome—gutsy, exciting, and full of fire. The whole team played with such confidence, taking chances and having a real crack. Delasi’s goal was a beauty and had the crowd cheering. The passing was on point, with players lining up beautifully down the field and linking up like they had invisible strings connecting their boots. It was a joy to watch.

What really stood out today was how well everyone listened and applied what they’ve been learning. You could see it in the foot skills, in the way they read the play, and the strong effort they gave, especially in the first half, which was full of intensity and hustle. The second half slowed a little, likely because the team had worked so hard early on and could sense the game was in hand. Still, they held it together with great teamwork and smart play right to the end. A special shout out to Knox, whose presence was felt all over the pitch, whether he was defending, attacking, or transitioning, he showed an unwavering commitment to the team’s success.

As good ol’ Ted Lasso says, “Be a goldfish.” Forget the mistakes, stay positive, and keep moving. That’s exactly what our team did today. They didn’t dwell, they just dug in and gave it everything. We’re not just proud of how they played, we’re proud of who they’re becoming as a team.

And of course, a huge thank you to Jared and Luke for the brilliant job they’re doing with Legends 11. Their dedication, fairness, and constant encouragement create an environment where every child feels supported, seen, and inspired to give their best. We’re incredibly lucky to have them leading the way.

And a big shoutout to our sponsor, Two Cracks Coffee from Cowaramup. Your support helps keep the team running strong (and the adults well-caffeinated!). We’re grateful to have you backing our Legends.  Great job, Legends. Keep believing, keep learning, and most importantly, keep having fun

U9 Raptors

The Raptors displayed consistent effort on Saturday against the Capel Cubs at home. Nissi scored the goal of the match, while Jed and Louis were the stand out players of the match showing their ever improving skills and being awarded POD's. Thank you to Two Cracks Coffee in Cowaramup for the vouchers.

U9 Mavericks

Today’s weather certainly tested the spectators loyalty. Let me tell you, it was well worth getting the wellies out. A spectacular goal from Harry Dorman worth the trip alone and he also earnt himself a POD for his efforts.  Heart warming to see such great sportsmanship on the field and the CSC Colts certainly came to play!

U10 Strikers

It was wet and wild as the FMR U10 Strikers took on the Vasse Taipans. The Taipans weren’t going to make the game easy for the Strikers and they played a physical game but the Strikers stayed composed and controlled to dominate the match. The whole team moved the ball around the field beautifully. It was true team effort but our player of the day was Mateo, after an amazing goal scoring game and impressive passing skills!!! Amazing effort Mateo. Big thank you to Dillon for refereeing and our POD sponsor the FMR canteen.

U10 Wasps

What a fantastic game for the U10 Wasps this weekend against Vasse! The team turned on the style with a flurry of goals, thanks to some sharp finishing from Leo, Deccy, Hugo, and Dylan. Their attacking flair kept the scoreboard ticking and the crowd cheering.

Woody was electric throughout the match, showing off some brilliant running and slick skills that kept the opposition on their toes. His energy and creativity were a highlight of the game.  Player of the Day went to John Nilsson-Linne, who put in a complete performance with a great mix of attacking drive and solid defending. He was everywhere on the pitch and made a huge impact at both ends.

The game was played in fantastic spirits, and not even a late rainstorm could wash away the enthusiasm or smiles. A big shout-out to all the players for their effort and teamwork.

U10 Dragons

The wet weather couldn’t dampen the Dragons’ spirits today as they were excited to be playing on home turf after being away in Dunsborough the last two weekends.

The Dragons were quick off the mark from the first whistle and maintained the pace for the duration of the game. There were plenty of runs down the line, skilful ball control, quick and accurate passes, and solid attacking. The Dragons were very dominant and the Pups struggled to break through our defence. It was great to see the energy in the team today, every player was focused and contributed with enthusiasm.

Credit also needs to be given to our opponent, the Capel Pups. It’s a long drive to Margaret River from Capel and the match today was really tough. The Pups demonstrated great spirit and sportsmanship throughout the game and never gave up.

The Dragons would also like to extend thanks to Coach Tim, for stepping up while Coach Jimmy has been away for the past two weeks. Tim did an outstanding job guiding the team and we are very grateful.

Our player of the day today was Jedd, who is to be commended for his huge effort so far this season. He has been chasing the ball and putting in top effort every match and has been rewarded with a couple of lovely goals in our last two games. Congratulations Jedd, well deserved and we hope you enjoyed a treat from the FMR Canteen with your voucher!

U10 Serpents

Back on home turf, the Serpents faced off against the Capel Cubs, Jason and Monty coaching and keeping the team focused throughout.

Noah and Raya held the fort in goal, making key saves with fearless determination. Louis was on fire, weaving up the pitch and coming agonisingly close to scoring, earning himself POD and a well-earned Yahava milkshake! Charlie kept the momentum going with sharp passing, helping drive attacks forward.

The second half was intense, with high pressure and relentless offense. The Serpents fought hard, showing grit, teamwork and skill to hold their ground against a strong opponent.  A fantastic effort from the team! 🐍

U11 Roos

After a seemingly long first half 😂 (our time keeper forgot the watch) both sides played well covering each end. After the oranges (thanks Di) the Roos put good pressure after half time with great shots at goal. Congratulations to Hudson - putting his body on the line and stopping a lot of shots getting past him. A well deserved voucher for the FMR canteen.

U11 Storm

Another close game today as U11 Storm met MUSC Giants on a wet (almost) winter pitch. There were big efforts made by the team as they covered the whole field. Shining moments seen in both in attack and defence. It’s great to see the team is improving every week. Congratulations to Lachlan Wills who earned POD with some great work in goals; thanks to Two Cracks Coffee.

U12 Breakers

The Breakers found their rhythm early in a game against the CSC Stingers. The ball was driven down both ends of the pitch by attackers from both teams. The dynamic duo of Drayke in goals and Zoe in defence proved to be a game changer and both players earned POD for their efforts.

U12 Stars

A good old-fashioned game of two halves with The Stars starting strongly taking a two-goal lead into half time with goals from Oscar Atkins and Samson Kerr.

The Legends fought back and were able to take control of the game and scored to weigh in their favour and add to the excitement of the game.

Some good football played by both sides a credit to Margaret River Football Club.

Player of the Day was awarded to Alex Mitchell who played with bravery on the ball. She will enjoy a milkshake thanks to Yahava.

U12 Jettz

Today the Jettz away game was against a tough opposition. Having lost our main Striker early from injury it was up to the rest of the team to band together. They fought hard and showed courage with a number of girls not backing down against a team of strong physical boys. Kayla was one of those who showed knowledge and strength in defence and earnt player of the day. Unfortunately through misfortune the solid attempts on goal were foiled by the opposition. Games like these are tough but good learning curves. Proud of your effort today.

U12 Legends

A very tense start from both teams today, with strong efforts on both ends. The opposition managed to score twice in the first half, putting the Legends under pressure early.

At halftime, we shifted formation from a 3-1-2-2 to a more attacking 3-2-3 setup – and it paid off.  Bella and Indi were on fire up front, showing great energy, communication, and determination. Ashley, also playing as striker, applied constant pressure and led the attack with intensity.

In midfield, Denzel and Koby did a fantastic job controlling the game, moving into space, and connecting the play through smart passes.  In defence, Lokis, Ziggy, Noah, and Sangay held strong with excellent positioning and teamwork throughout the game.

Goal scorers:

Sangay – brilliant goal straight from a corner.

Ashley – finished off a second-ball opportunity after pressing the keeper.

Denzel and Koby – both scored well-taken goals in open play.

Special mention to Cohen, who filled in across multiple positions today – a real team player.

And a shout-out to Beau for some outstanding saves and quick decisions.

Players of the Game: Bella and Ashley – for their energy, pressure, and impact up front

What a comeback, what a performance – go Legends!

U13 Wyverns

First of all, we would  like to thank Luke for coaching the Wyverns while Gary was on holiday. The Wyverns vs GMAS Phantoms the score was 6-3 in Wyverns favour . We were slow at beginning of the game once they warmed up they played a hard game. Benjimen’s defence in goals was on fire. All the boys should be proud of themselves for hard played game. The play of the match goes to Zed.

U14 Rockets

The game started under rainy conditions. Within moments of the first whistle Cornerstone opened the placard. Rockets defence was on high alert and worked hard to make sure Cornerstone didn’t get much closer.

The Rockets were putting lots of pressure and creating plenty of opportunities that wasn’t quite finding the mark. On the second half Rockets started to find a rhythm, giving their best on the field! Playing  stronger as a team, never giving up until the last moment.

Final score 2 - 0. Players of the day went to Flynn and Cody.

U14 Warriors

A tough game today against GMAS Gladiators; it was undoubtedly going to be.

The Warriors players started well finding passing corridors and hitting their targets. We had the ball trapped forward on many occasions but it proved tough to break through the GMAS defence. The Warriors can feel proud that they kept it to the score they did. There were some great passages of play and some fearlessly completive spirits out there right to the end. The team is building up their skill and remain determined at moving forwards. Player of the day went to goalkeeper Seb. Well done Seb for keeping many strikes out and maintaining a great attitude across both half's.

U15 Sharks

The Sharks met the Tigers in a derby for the first time this season.  The wet pitch conditions made play a little clumsy, as the first 10 minutes showed the promise of a close match. However, as they settled into their game, the Sharks were able to control possession. Benji made a dent in the score board, scoring a hat-trick in the first half, giving the Sharks a 3-nil lead at half time.

Vincent, Ava and Felix did some solid defending in the first half.  With Vincent also showing his versatility in attack in the second half.  There were also glimpses of cohesion with regard to team play, fluidity and passing.  When the Sharks all work together they look an impressive and unstoppable combination.

Mateja had yet another strong match, so close to her first goal of the season on several occasions.  Ultimately Benji was the player of the day, scoring an incredible 7 goals.  The final score was a win for the sharks 8 goals to 1.   Despite the score difference, the Tigers showed their potential and strength in their midfield, looking impressive in attack when the opportunities presented.

YL Blaze

This week all our efforts at training paid off with our first win of the season in an exciting game against the BCFC Thunder.  Our first goal came early with a kick up by Henry, to Sonny, intercepted by Kade who passed it across to Sid who popped it in.  Busso caught us on the hop to equalise.  A steal by Digby up to Poom to Sid who scored our second.

Sid had another run but was overwhelmed by a sea of red resulting in a corner. Had a good crack but couldn’t get there.  A shot from Sonny was saved.  Busselton had their chances but lucky for us their shots were not on target, and those the were were stopped by Henry. A pass up from Lisa to Kade gave us a chance but shot went just over.  Then Busso got past us to score to even things up.

Sid showed off his ball skills again, expertly playing along the line. Poom made a great run up the pitch but wasn’t able to finish it off.  Then a great play up from William to Lisa, cross to Poom for a header, rebound caught by Caspian who scored to give us the lead!

The second half was incredible to watch with everyone getting in on the action.  Seconds in, Sonny was fouled. Sid stepped in for the fee kick and was on target. A play up to Lisa, who chipped across the to Kai who finished it off. William intercept pass up to Kade, to Kai who finished it off with aplomb. Then a Kade cross to Asha who scored her first goal.  Busselton fought back catching us again with a high pass that went over to score.

The goal of the day has to go to Henry, who did a Beckham off a free kick taken from just inside our defensive hand.  Big kick that went straight into goals!  So sad the VEO camera glitched before the second half so we can’t see it on replay.  A Kai pass to Kade who scored.  Asha bomb for her second. Kade finished it off to get the last goal of the day, with the score 11-3 at the whistle.

The score doesn’t reflect the Thunder’s tenacity and skill on the ball.  It was a great game to watch with both sides fairly evenly matched.  Today showed just what we can do.  Multiple goal scorers with a full team effort, with everyone doing their part and moving the ball around with precision and skill.  POD went to Sid for his hat-trick and to Caspian who has been a consistent with his offensive play and great defending. Great job Blaze!

YL Wanderers

It was an intense start to the game.  Good pressure, defence, and strong tackling from both teams with some excellent shots on target either coming off the crossbar, saved or going wide.

Eventually Wanderers with a ball from Saxon to Ethan then to Jay to Ryder who put it in the back of the net.  An excellent team goal and taking the game to half time at 1-0.

The second half started with the same intensity from both teams.  Lucas was kept very busy in goal.  The Redbacks then score from a counterattack then it was game on.1-1

The intensity increased and Lucas making a fantastic save from the penalty spot!!

Unfortunately, the Redbacks got a free kick just outside the box with 2 minutes to go and scored.  All in all, a tough physical game , and the Wanderers should be proud of a great team effort from all players involved.  Lucas a well-deserved P.O.D
